Business Software


    The use of Business Software is an integral part of most of today’s businesses.

    Wikipedia describes Business Software as;

    “Business Software is generally any software program that helps a business increase productivity or measure their productivity. The term covers a large variation of uses within the business environment, and can be categorized by using a small, medium and large matrix:

    • The small business market generally consists of home accounting software, and office suites such as Microsoft Office and OpenOffice.org.
    • The medium size, or SME, has a broader range of software applications, ranging from accounting, groupware, customer relationship management, human resources software, outsourcing relationship management, loan origination software, shopping cart software, field service software, and other productivity enhancing applications.
    • The last segment covers enterprise level software applications, such as those in the fields of enterprise resource planning, enterprise content management (ECM), business process management and product lifecycle management. These applications are extensive in scope, and often come with modules that either add native functions, or incorporate the functionality of third-party software programs.

    As such Business Software is considered to be for different applications than Industrial software.  Some specific types of Business Software include but as stated above are not limited to;

    Customer Relationship Management or alternatively Customer Relations Management Software (CRM Software) is an important aspect of any business trying to monitor the effectiveness and satisfaction levels of their customers. As any business knows it far easier to build on sales with existing clients that know and trust you than it is to find, court and then sell to new clients.

    HR Software or Human Resources Software is another critical aspect for any of the larger businesses and is a Business Software that requires more than a passing consideration when being selected. The range and detail of capabilities of HR Software mean that in most cases businesses will generally tailor a this form of Business Software to suit their particular operation or situational requirements.

    Project Management Software potentially crosses the boundaries with Industrial Software but can also be used as a Business Software package to facilitate the development and magement of the primary business itself.

    A Software License is generally required for any Business Software that a company or business may utilise. The Software License authorises the user to use the Business Software and generally dictates the conditions of use, whether the software be a purchased software product or even freeware software.

    What ever way you look at it Business Software in one form or another has become an important tool for nearly all business in the high technology world of today.
